A business conference centre occupying a Grade II* Listed mansion designed by SS Teulon for Lord Calthorpe in the 1860's, was constrained by the existing internal layout and lacked the appropriate residential accommodation, restaurant, amenity and leisure facilities for this increasingly successful venue.

 

Mathewson Whittaker Architects appointment for a phased programme of extension and improvements to the main house, outbuildings and Water Tower involved careful consideration of the building fabric which had not been the subject of any major work since 1910Mathewson Whittaker Architects' solution for a single sitting restaurant for delegates, replaced an existing 1950's greenhouse on the garden elevation with a new Conservatory dining room releasing the existing catering facilities in the former elegant living spaces to uses more suited to their form and structure as valuable reception rooms. New bedroom suites, bar, games area, gym, spa, sauna and changing facilities were created within the Stables building through partial reconstruction and partial extension of the perimeter walls with matching style windows and carefully replicated roofscape
