1980’S PROPERTY WITH A MODERN MAKEOVER

Where: Wiltshire

Client travels extensively in Belgium and the Netherlands and has been inspired by their more contemporary approach to domestic architecture. The brief required a two-storey extension to create a more interesting and spacious entrance with a home office above, additional bedroom and extended kitchen, as well as modernising the appearance of the 1980’s house.

The existing double garage occupied the only suitable area for the extension, so this had to be demolished with the garage doors carefully removed to be installed in the replacement garage.

The style reflects the type of properties found in the Benelux countries, with a mix of materials including high energy efficient aluminium windows, vertical boarding and render with brick infill panels. The office is partly cantilevered to create a covered porch with the corner window set at desk height.
