Elegant Period Style New Home

Traditional Style Architecture with a Modern Twist

Where: Outskirts of Newbury, Berkshire

The clients wanted a large traditional-style modern house to replace the existing smaller 1960’s property. The brief was to provide large open plan living accommodation, with traditional reception rooms and 5 bedrooms to suit modern family living.

The house is dug into a steeply sloping site giving 2 storeys on one side and 3 on the other, the design needed to make maximum use of the view of the surrounding Berkshire countryside. Airsource heating - effectively heating a house of this size can be a challenge, which we achieved.

The clients wanted a curved bespoke concrete spiral stair and had commissioned a cast aluminium and oak balustrade to complement the modern style. In contrast they wanted a quality traditional appearance for the house with dressed stone, handmade bricks and roof tiles. The House now sits comfortably within its 10 nacre site and makes the most of the sloping terrain and rural views
