BARN CONVERSION IN WALLED GARDEN

Where: Berkshire

Our clients were general building contractors who purchased a Grade II listed house with a vast walled garden which contained a large barn, a small barn and a laundry/general-purpose brick outbuilding.

The house had been converted into flats in the 1970s with the buildings within the walled garden, all considered curtilage listed, remaining unused whilst the contractors continued to be building elsewhere.  When they decided it was time to retire, MWA were appointed to develop proposals for conversion of the barns and outbuilding to 3 residential units together with the construction of two arts and crafts style houses within the remaining area of the walled garden.

Despite an unfavourable financial climate, when the properties came to the market, they were all sold over one weekend and a number of purchasers were still in occupation a good many years later.
